Hello all, anyone see any issues with mounting a car GPS to a motorbike, Garmin did not recommend it due to vibrations, yet they referred me to a company that makes mounts for it. I own a NUVI 750 car version and just don't feel like going out to purchase a $600 bike version if I can get away form it. Any input woudl be appreciated.

I have done about 5000 miles with a Nuvi 360 mounted on (very nicely machined) brackets that are sized to fit directly on to the handlebar of both my Harley and my Boss Hoss.

I got mine off eBay, the seller makes sizes that fit both the stock rear Garmin-seized socket and the larger RAM-sized socket.

Seller is loug_33 . I have no personal interest in his business, but I have bought a number of items from him and he's been prompt and reliable.

Vibration was not a problem, and when it started to rain I just slipped a sandwich baggie over the unit. Couldn't see it very well when it got wet, but was focusing on the road anyway...

I use a Nuvi 260 with a RAM mount on my V-Strom. Works very well and I've had no issues.

I have the Garmin 550 which is made to use on a bike because of vibrations and is waterproof so they say.So far have been up to around 80 and no problems with the RAM mount.

I have a $148.00 Tom Tom from Wal Mart and it has did very well for me on a 19 day, 22 state, 7,535 mile ride, 1,900 mile ride to Key West and back, 1,800 mil ride along the coast of Louisana to Port Arthur, TX. and back, and several other Southeastern trips. Just ain't waterproof.

You can easily make a better GPS bike mount than Garmin can - and you can do it for free! My Garmin bike mount snapped in the middle of a trip, so i scrounged around the back of the car and turned up an innertube and a thick car-washing sponge - that's all you need! after a bit of creative wrapping, the best gps bike mount ever was devised. i've since done some serious off-road riding with it, and i can authoritatively say that the mount shown below is the most functionally perfect GPS bike mount ever. it is 100% vibration & rattle free, the gps does not budge at all, it's lightweight, inexpensive, and very quick to put the gps on and off the bike. you can build the entire mount in under 5 minutes.

Just be sure to mount everything securely or you might end up losing your precious investment. Check out www.motorcyclehouse.com for a cheap container or mount to hold the GPS in. I'd get like a tool bag to mount on my bike securely..

I was able to buy a Givi gps/smartphone holder. That can be installed in the steering easily, but can any one suggest how to install a gps system in a sportsbike?

I use the Ram Mount. I tried my car GPS but the screen was washed out and useless. You can buy motorcycle specific GPS and I imagine the resolution is brighter (LED?) but they're pricey. My phone navigation works great and releases quickly when I park.

I wonder what is the difference between mounting a usual GPS and a car GPS to a motorbike except for parking assistance. I'm just looking for safety and wanna know where my bike is. So I was searching through the internet for cheap alternatives and found some usual GPS which you can mount either on your car or put it on your pet's collar so that you can know where the little guy is. I wonder why not using one of these, they are way more cheaper. I'm planning to go to Spain next week in order to find a property for sale in Torrevieja and I want to mount one of these GPS's before I go so that I can be sure about the safety of my bike. What do you guys think?
