I checked the specs in the book and it specifies sae80 api gl-4 hypoid gear oil. So I went to the auto parts store looking for some Lucas Gear Oil and all they have is GL-5. So my question is this.... What does GL-4 and GL-5 mean?? From what I was reading on the bottles they must be a standard... so maybe addatives and what not.
I didn't buy any and will get it from the dealer but I was curious.
thanks

I have read lots about differences between GL-4 and GL-5 specs. There are serious issues for some autos is you use the wrong one. Basically GL-5 has alot more additives and does not pass one test the GL-4 does. That being said.

I use Mobil1 75W90 which is GL-5, but the fine print says this:

"Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant 75W-90 can also be used in rear axles where API Service GL-4 lubricant is recommended."
