    Question Wider rear tire

What is the widest rear tire acceptable on my Raider and is there any compromise on safety and handling?

They say you can go up to a 240mm(stock is 210mm) That's one more inch. You need to keep reading about it. I will go back with a 210mm,unless I have more cash at the end or this tier I'm on. It has to do with crowning the tire.I would move on up to the RIGHT rim for the job. Then when I'm there do the wider belt and pulleys. Why do a wider tire if you can't put down any more power ? The Roadliner has the belt and pulley fix for you.Oh and don't for get the Oliver clutch kits. It's hard to do just one of them. It's a about the balance.Remember The chains weakest link and how about do it right the first time around? Now all we need is a money tree.I hope I have helped. Good luck.

I have a 240 Avon on mine its fine and bike is smoother riding . Not sure why but their was a difference. I have a 1000 miles on mine . 250 avon will go but its tight . On other raider board most run the 240 Avon. I know no more factory tire for me. Mine was bald at 3000 miles . Like I said I have a 1000 on my new one and still looks like new. Handling is as good or better .
Becareful not all 240 are same dia. Avon close to same dia as factory

I have the Avon Cobras front and back - 240 rear - and love them. Bike has a slight tendency to fall into SLOW turns, but it's easy to control. Regular speed riding is WAY better than the 210 in the corners! Acceleration is a bit down (maybe 5%). I have NO INTENTION of going back to a 210. It is more fun with the 240. As Ar-nold said "They say sizes doesn't matter - BUT THEY LIE"

Default Many happy miles on Dunlop Elite 3 240mm

I have over 82K miles on my red '08, most of them with the Dunlop E3 240. I average 10K miles before a replacement is required. Installer has no issues mounting the tire on the stock rim. As an added benefit, my speedo is now accurate.
Bikes don't leak oil, they mark their territory.

If I get 15,000 out of my Avon I will need taken to hospital . I got 3025 miles out of the factory tire It was bald . I have a 1000 on the avon and it looks new so far, fingers crossed. Front tire might go to 5ooo . I do change those maybe a little early But I don't like a flat on the front at speed.

I just put a Dunlop E3 250 on my wife's 2008 Raider. I thought about not telling her anything about it, but considered better and told her a bigger tire. Put on right before she and a friend went on a 600 mi multi day trip up around Lake Superior. Old stock tire was almost to 10K, she is a pretty easy rider but does haul some luggage once in a while. I took it for a short test spin, but don't ride it much. Too slow.

Her report, rides better, turns better, smoother, and likes it a lot better. This, of course, is comparing it to an old shot 210 and not a brand spanky new one, so that could change things somewhat I suspect.

I did a lot of research here first, bought from Dennis Kirk and went with the Dunlop as it was quite a bit less than anything else. Bike does not get a lot of miles in a year, as you can see 10k in 4 years, so I figured that was more than good. I mount all my own tires, this was the easiest one I have ever changed by far. I was expecting it to be a beast. Easiest to change tire on rim, not get rim off bike, tho that was not so terrible either. I think about 4 hours and job was done, I could do it again in 2.5-3 hours probably.

Best part about the Raider is watching people's reaction when they see a woman get on or off of it. That is pretty funny sometimes, whenever I leave her alone and get back, some guy is always talking to her about her bike, which she hates. 50 year old woman, I doubt they are hitting on her, actually talking about the bike. She just wants to ride, hit the starter and let me fix everything and take care of it. So, she doesn't really know that much about it. Had her on a 1100 Shadow and got tired of waiting, at least she can kind of keep up on the Raider.
