    Default vacation plans rearranged

I've got the next two weeks off. It looks like it's going to be hot and dry the entire time. So a great way to beat the heat is to run to the high country.

We've been planning a night run from Glenwood Springs, over McClure Pass and west to Delta, Colorado. And then up and over the Grand Mesa. The Mesa tops out at just under 11,000'. We'll be getting there after dark so we'll be seeing the lights of valley towns for a long ways off. On both sides but not at the same time.

Later in the week I figured I'd run up thru Asspain....oops, Aspen, and over Independence Pass (12,000+') and eat lunch in Leadville (~10,000').

But it's not to be. On today's cruise in high 90's temps I pulled over for gas, 30 miles from town. I noticed a shiny, silvery dot on my tire. A nail.

It's holding air but I've got a new tire ordered with an estimated delivery of Thursday. I sure hope it gets here and on before Monday. That's the start of my annual 4th of July vacation trip. Would suck real bad to have to take the car.

[Update] My buddy called this morning about 8:30 wondering if I wanted to go for a putt. Told him my problems and he said he had a new style plug kit and we should try it out. Got over to his shop, took a look and agreed to try it. I didn't get the brand's name but the plugs have a large mushroom head on them. We installed one per instructions and it went great! So we went over Independence Pass and had lunch in Leadville. Their idea (another buddy showed up as we finished my bike). Rode ~150 miles today and didn't lose a bit of air. These are great kits that are easy to use and hold up great.
