    Dear All

First of all, thank you to all of those that were so brave this morning for today’s Star Trek. It was indeed an icy morning. My body was fine, but my fingers barely held out. Zeus and I went on to Cullinan to enjoy a bit of the local brew in the town. A much more pleasant trip and we really enjoyed the beer in the sun.

    AGM AND NATIONAL COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS

Many thanks to those of you who have put forward nominations. Those of you who have not sent in nominations, please do so before the deadline of 15 July. I will notify you of the date and venue of the AGM at which time all those who have been nominated for the various positions will be voted for.

    MPUMULANGA TRIP

Having looked at the calendar, we would like to do our Mpumulanga trip over 5 days being 9 – 13 August 2012 (one of our official Star Riders long weekends). We will be required to take 2 days leave as 9 August is a public holiday. We will be basing ourselves in Hazyview at the Numbi Hotel. Please let me know whether or not you will be attending, as well as how many will be in your group. We will endeavour to obtain t-shirts and prizes from Yamaha as well as have our own badge for the event.

    KATSE DAM TRIP

This trip is an unofficial and will not be “recce” ed before the time. It will thus be quite an adventurous trip as we will not know what we will encounter along the way. For those of you who are not faint-hearted and would like to join us on this trip, please let me know. We are planning to hold this trip over the weekend of 22 – 25 September 2012. The ideas is to base ourselves in Ficksburg at the Highland Hotel. We will travel to Ficksburg on 22 September. We will then do the Katse dam and back in one day on 23 September. The 24 September will include a leisurely ride to a nearby day or through Golden Gate National Park and then travel back to JHB on 25 September. Please note that passports and bike papers are required for this trip.

    CRUISER RIDER TRAINING

We have put together a cruiser riding program which we would like to offer to all members. We are talking to Clinton Pienaar (Superbike) to hold such a program for us which includes specific aspects of riding. The plan is to have this course offered in the early part of next year.

    RIDING SKILL – RECOGNITION

We have designed a Rider Recognition Program which will be distributed to all in the near future. We want to implement this in the new financial year (September onwards). We are designing a badge for this purpose which will include recognition for various grades of skill achievement (example: 1 star – basic riding skills; 5 stars – advanced riding skills).

    STAR RIDERS PIT SHIRTS

We are considering having Pit Shirts made for all members (male styles and female styles). We are in the process of looking at the design and obtaining costing for this. We will keep you informed of developments in this regard.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

If you would like to make any recommendations which you would like the National Steering Committee to consider, please send this to me, Mynhardt, Hendrik or Mike.

Until we ride together again, ride safe. Hopefully next month’s Star Trek will be a bit warmer.

    Dear Members of Committee

Thank you for accommodating each Star Trek - despite the weather conditions.

I am looking forward to the Mpumalanga trip - please count me in.

I would have to do some research before making a final decision on the Katse Dam trip. However, I have planned it since November 2011! Leave has been granted since January.

Pity the cruiser rider training will only commence next year. I would have loved to have some external idea / measurement of my riding skills. (Without putting my bike in jeopardy!) If possible, may I have Clinton Pienaar's contact details prior to this planned Star Rider program?

I also look forward to the Star Rider pit shirts, thank you.

    Best wishes

Default Sunshine on the veranda at The Cockpit

We found this perfect spot in the sun, out of the wind, appreciating some of the local brew/s. Man, it was good to be alive.

Missed the rest of you, but we made up for your absence by having a sip of the good stuff for each of you.
See you sometime soon (hopefully in warmer climes). If it was not for Que Sera and the OBS we might have lost some fingers.

I would like to welcome and thank Karen and Ulrich who joined us today for their first ride with Star Riders. Great to meet you both and apologies that we could not organise better weather. We trust that you enjoyed meeting up with some of the members and look forward to seeing you again soon.
