Check the VIN again. The "S" model came in blue and black. Verify that it is a "S" model. $9k would be a great deal for that bike.

ya the vin check says its an S model and the color off the vin is Deep Blue which was offered in 2010...but the guys bike is raven black...not blue. soooooo what gives? he said it hasnt been repainted and hes the original owner(which is true) is there a way i can check the color off the vin or what can i look for when I go see the bike to see if it had been repainted?(bolt holes not right etc)

Doesn't make sense. Have him call the dealer he bought it from. How are you checking the VIN?

    Cut-n-paste is your friend.

hey guys Im new to the crusier world, former crotch rocket owner and I have some questions on the 2010 raider s I am about to buy. I had to sell my 05 gsxr600 due to blowing my knee out in the military and it just wasnt fun or comfy for me to ride anymore after the surgery. So I have leaped into the cruiser world and just not ready to give up the raw power and speed yet so I'm looking at the raider. I am buying it from an individual that is current military and only selling due to him being sent to another base up north with limited riding. the bike has cobra swept pipes, quick detatch windscreen and backrest, integrated tail, and the front controls moved another 3in foward. I asked him the other night if it had been dropped at all and he stated he was backing up one day, foot slipped, and he caught it just as the pipes touched the ground and there is some ever so slight scuff/scratch on them...barely noticable unless you are looking for it. I'm fine with that. I got the VIN # from him today, ran a check and it states the color is Deep Blue...not raven black. He is the original owner, got got it with 1mi on it, and isnt sure why it would say that bc hes never had a claim, never had it painted either but said he would look into it. There is no claims showing on the check either. According to the vin check...it all checks out just fine...except the color. Could the VIN # be wrong? I have not gone to see the bike yet due to it being 2.5hrs away...when I do go up there, what are some things to look for to see if it has in fact been repainted? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!

also, the bike has 27xxMI on it and he was asking 10K and I got him to 9K

    (end)

If you don't get an answer here, I would suggest asking at the nearest Yamaha dealership.

I wish I had a definite answer for you but I am not sure.

ya i just figured a simple link would work. thanks tho! and ya hes not sure why its showing that either. I just used the vin check off the kbb wedsite...down at the bottom of the screen once you get your retail price. have you guys ever heard of the manufacture making a mistake? Ive heard of mistakes where the next vehicles info actually got put on the previous vehicle. I guess if the next bike was a deep blue it would make sense but will this mess with me getting insurance or the loan if they see it?

Have a dealer run the VIN. If/when you go to sell, you'll be the one having to answer these question. I would guess that kbb js wrong.

ok so i called a yamaha dealer and the guy ran the vin, everything checked out. I told him what was going on and he said DMV probably messed up but could see what shop he bought it from, when, and everything about the bike. He said to fix it all I would need to do is to tell the DMV when I go to register it that it is raven black so then whenever someone does a vin check it should show up as raven black from now on.

ya i know right! he had it listed for 10k...which is still low for a 10 with 27xx miles and all the extras i think. I was already preapproved for a C109R the week prior but loooved the look of the raiders but 9 was the most i was able to get and I just happened to come across this one. asked if he would take 9 and he jumped on it...should of told him 8500 haha oh well...i asked if he had a helmet jacket gloves to go with...he said he would toss in a half helmet and gloves. jumped on it!...just waiting on the bank to finish everything up! Since its a holiday weekend, may not get it until tues since he cant come down to do the paperwork so its all gotta go through the mail. really looking foward to getting back on a bike!

I have a blue 2010 S. I am pretty sure the S only came in Blue, but maybe things are different in the US. I would call Yamaha directly and ask about the VIN color. Bike could be "hot" and the original dealer was in on it. Your friend could be innocent, but I would not put anything past a dealer. I have seen some really dishonest stuff over the years. Many "repaints" can be caught if you look accross the paint at eye level. Factory Yamis will be smooth, but a poor paint job will look uneven. You have to get your eye "just right" to see it, but if you see it you will know it. Phone Yamaha first, but don't tell them your friends name.
