just from general riding roughly how many miles should you expect to get out of your stock rear tire.

I think I got 4000-5000 out of my original Metzeler ME 880. I'm on my 2nd Dunlop E3 now. Getting about the same out of these as well. Thought about the Avon but would definitely be replacing closer to the 4000 mark if I was lucky. I'm sticking with the Dunlop E3 as my tire of choice.

I had around 8500 on mine when I swapped it out.

I'm on my seventh rear tire now. The last six have been Metzeler 240. I've gotten from 8,500 up to 10,500 miles on them. An average of about 9,700 miles per tire in 70,000. I very seldom use the rear breaks.

As for wear on the left side of the tire. I believe thats normal on a wide rear tire of a two wheel cycle. The slope of the road is to the right for drainage. When on straight stretches the left side of a wide tire would tend to have more contact with the road surface.

5000-8000 miles -OK
8000-12,000 miles - Good

Most important thing is to keep a very CLOSE eye on wear for these tires.
Especially if you have a 240 tire on the stock rim.
The tread is thin.
Once it starts to go, and you can see any tire cords at all,
then it does not take long to wear through.

Replace it soon, and have peace of mind.
