Their there for a good reason...If you remove them you fork seals will wear out quicker! Then you'll really have to take the fork apart!
But they just look so goofy.... Just my oppinion

The Kury one's are just stick on covers, not true replacements.

I bought the Kury, and they look good installed. Just my 2 cents.

Ive been riding 50 years never had these on any other bike I have owned . This first bike I had them on. I repeat Had!!! This was first thing to go when I got home.
I don't belive they really serve a real function. Except for aftermarket to sell you chrome covers for around 50 bucks.
On my recent 1200 mile ride I had plenty of time to think about the guards. Can't be rock guards because too short, the upper part of tube is still exposed.
I think the guards are there to protect against bug spatter on the first few inches of the fork tube that is contantly going in and out of the fork seals and if you get dried bug spatter constantly testing the seals eventually some will get past. Sure, the upper part of the tube still gets spatter but doesn't put the seals to the test near as often as the first few inches of fork travel.
