Default rookie has broken handlebar stopper on frame

I had a small accident with my raider and broke the aluminium handlebar stopper on the left side of the frame. I have the piece that broke off. Has anyone else had this problem, an if so, is there a way to repair it to be strong as new? Thanks for your help

I think he means the steering stop.

You can find a reputable welder and have then build it up and then file it square. I think that's about the only option, though

Yes, I do mean the steering stop. I was hoping for, but not really expecting,an easy solution like some miracle liquid weld product or something like that. I am surprised this doesn't happen quite frequently as it bdoke fairly easily on a soft gravel shoulder. Thanks for you quick response and good advice.

You can get some "custom" steering stops from the Parts Unlimited Drag SPecialties book. You will need to cut the factory stops off, then drill and tap a hole for the new ones. It is pretty easy and can be done in just a couple of hours or so. Any reputable shop can handle this for you.

Because this stop was broken in an accident, State Farm totalled my bike. I bought it back from them and had the local Yamaha dealer remove all the electrics from the bike and take it to a welding shop and had them heliarc a new stop onto the frame. I defy anyone to tell the difference between the new and old stops!! So, contact your local dealer, or go to a REPUTABLE welding shop yourself and tell your story and get an estimate! Do not try JB Weld or anything like that! That stop is there for a reason, and if it fails after a shoddy repair, well, it's YOUR life! So, do it right. It isn't all that expensive, with the bulk of the cost removing the electroncs. Do not have anyone weld on the bike without first removing ALL the electronics!! There are sensors everywhere, and the computer alone would be horribly expensive to replace!

I agree with Omaha, your best bet it to go to a reputable welder and have them repair it for you. The stopper is there for a very important reason so you don't want to save a few dollars with a cheap fix and end up paying more in the long run.
