Default Gerry Potts died today.... R.I.P.

Our friend Gerry got his new trike today just a few hours before God called him home.

When Steve and I rode over to see him last Friday he was exited to be getting the trike today. He told me then that he didn't think he would have the strength to ride it, but was going to try.

Today, I rode it up to his house and into his garage as loudly as I could. I know he could hear it even though he couldn't see it. Gerry passed peacefully a few hours later with a house full of his family and friends.

Later this afternoon, his wife Dawn put on Gerry's biker jacket and ask if I would take her for a ride on the new trike. We BLASTED down the road for a few minutes and for a brief moment in time I think she felt at peace.

Gerry is the one who got all of us Georgia boys hooked on V8 Choppers. You will be missed my friend.

God Bless Gerry, Dawn and all of his family.

This is as sad as it gets. He sounded like someone we would all loved to know and ride with.

His family will be in our prayers.

I was saddened to hear this. Gerty was a nice guy and a lot of fun. I am glad that his family was there and that he got to see his new trike. CR, nice of you to take her for a ride on it.

Live fun, you never know when your time is up.

Gerry will be missed by all of us. He had so many friends, not just in the V8 community. Wherever we rode he never met a stranger. Prayers go out to Dawn and family.

I wasn't expecting to come in this morning to find this post. What a shock! I guess deep down we all were hoping to see Gerry riding again in Daytona or some other rally. CR, please pass all our sympathies along to Dawn and thanks for letting us know. Gerry will be missed.

Gerry was a good friend, a true rider, and a genuinely nice guy. I will always remember racing with him. Even though I didn't see him much the last year, I will sincerely miss him. My wife Betsy and I send our condolences to his lovely wife Dawn and his family.

    Gerry,

Thank you, SIR, for serving our country! You will be missed from this point forward!

    Dawn,

If you would like to have the Partriot Guard Riders stand in honor of Gerry and the family, all you need to do is to ask. I just spoke with Acrophil about this. I also spoke with Rick Whitlock about this earlier today.
Please feel free to check out the PGR website> www.partriotguard.org
The PGR members would be proud to be there for you and the family, if you so desire. I am making contacts to line this up, should you like for the PGR to be included. There is absolutely no charge for what we do; only Love, Honor, and Respect.

    Sincerely,

I hope that our V8 bikeriders and trikeriders in the Atlanta area can
all be there to ride in honor of Gerry, as Dawn said that would be something Gerry would want.
As I will not be able to attend, I will play Taps on my Trumpet for Gerry and the family at
1 P.M. Eastern time on 25 Jan 2010 all by myself in my classroom, and I know Gerry will hear Taps for him.
