A chapter board is just a sub-board off the main Raider forum or any other forum where your specific topics or locality can be separated from the reset of the content. The chapter boards do have more forum specific functionality than a group but the group does offer a few advantages such as a photo gallery or the ability to make the group by invitation only.
We are evaluating just how we are going to use groups here on MBF in the future. Most sites just have chapter sub-boards. Our software allows separate and private user created groups. From the start, anyone could could create their own private group. That's been changed. For now, it's by request only and I create the group for them.
I've also been asked about calendars. I can also create calendars for chapter related events. The SoCal Raider group has one now.

I think I get it. Goes towards what I asked in this other post, right?
A calendar would be useful as well.
So if I understand it, there would be a local chapter forum setup similar to this.

I wouldn't say the groups are going away. The existing will stay and if there are any empty one's I'm going to delete them and start over with requests. We'll evaluate case by case. I'd prefer chapter boards over groups but we'll see how it pans out.
The chapter boards will be limited to one sub-board per chapter.
