View Full Version : Patch - UPDATE

Hey guys -
I posted my preliminary design for the patch here http://raiderperformance.com/patches.htm, along with a couple of comments - check it out and let me know what you think.
The design and simple and straightforward, which will let it be bold and stand out. Like we said before, we can get a lot more intricate with the design (an outline of the motor, etc...) when we do a t-shirt.
i like it as far as the colors you could do three differnt(red, black, and blue) i would love to put one on my jaket with a red background. the colors you picked for the raider will be sweet seen that done i believe its as close to chrome as you can get with string ;D

Looks good, I had a thought. I know I don't have to many of them. LOL. what about putting the engine right under the word Raider. we could put Star motorcycles right under the engine and put 113 on the air cover. just me thinking out loud again. The voices told me to say that. LOL
NJRaider
03-31-2008, 05:42 PM
That's actually what I was thinking too, for the t-shirt. I started sketching the motor yesterday - a little harder than I thought :cus:
...and don't worry about the voices :o ;)

NJRaider (Luke)
Sorry I missed your phone call.
I had a funeral to go to today then too many meetings when return.
I am working on the Raider logo to put it into a CAD format so we can use it for many things.
The first is a large sign for garage wall.
If anyone is interested let us know about Raider signs or other machined graphics you may want
for your bikes.
I'm working on a few designs.
I'm thinking powder coated billet for special effects with Raider styling cues.
Let me know what you all think.
Also, I'm working on a fabric cover that will fit on the handle bars, stretch out and hook to the rear fender in some manner. The purpose of this cover is to provide a covering for sun, bird droppings, tree sap and rain. It won't take the place of a full bike cover but will be something you could put in a very small bag or even your pocket when you go out for a short run and want to stop and park for a while and not have your bike exposed to heat from the sun or bird stuff. It will also say, stay off my bike. I'm thinking about a Raider wording imprinted on the cover.
Anyone interested in this?
Best,
Ken

Hey Ken -
no problem - I'm sorry to hear about the circumstances.
I'll have my phone with me all day, so shoot me a call when you're free.
I like the cover idea you're talking about too. The "keep off" value of something like that is just as important as the protection from the elements. Little kids see shiny bits on a bike like this and think "jungle gym"

How about something like "113 inches of Raw Attitude"
My two cents worth :)

You know...the mind is a terrible thing to waste. I was so proud of myself for coming up with that last one....113 inches of Raw Attitude...Only to realize that Luke has that same saying up on the raiderperformance.com home page.
The mind is a terrible thing to waste. Did I say that already?

Hey NJRider
Why don't you let me take a crack at this?
I'll see if I can come up with a few ideas.
I'm a professional graphic designer for over 25 years.
http://creativegraphx.com/
I'd like to incorporate the Star Motorcycles oval logo into it.
Okay, here's an idea: http://creativegraphx.com/raider/raider-1.html

Rudy,
That is cool, Just let me know when the patch is ready and how I can get one. I am ordering the San Antonio Leather mesh jacket from Star web site. That would be perfect for that Jacket.
Thanks guys, looking forward to see the final project.

I put the "patch" idea on the San Antonio jacket:
http://creativegraphx.com/raider/raider-1.html
Might be a bit redundant, what with that jacket already having the Star oval logo on it.
I'm going to call NJRider tomorrow and discuss some more ideas.
Perhaps we could actually have more than one version, sizes, and work on some colors.

Rudy,
Is funny that massraider said that. This is exactly I wanted to talk to you about.Pls chk the following links 1st:
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Photos/08_star_raider_main.JPG
"http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh164/ben11727/2008%20Raider%20S/a300.jpg"
This is one idea:
I would like to see the star logo(the small circle ) and the word STAR under it, for the front of a hat and the big and long RAIDER word in a same color for the back of the hat.
Next idea:
I would like to see the Raider motorcycle in a oval shape logo in front of the shirt and two stars at the sides, On the sleeve word CHAPTER and our local chapter #.same color combination.
Also the logo you create is perfect for the jacket. I would be interested to have few of them.
I PM you so if you would like or have time to talk about these idea's, Pls let me know what you think.
Thank you.
Ben
Love the design...would like to see the textured version without the star logo as well. In any case, have you found a company to produce these yet NJ? I'm chomping at the bit to get some made and may have to hit up a local patch shop (near the AF base) to make me some (with Rudy's permission).
Cheers!

From Ruedi, designing some ideas
I have another idea to look at.
After talking to NJRaider, we might NOT be able to utilize the STAR oval because of copyright issues.
Apparently we are okay with the "RAIDER" type, since I redrew it, and the marketing company did not send us the original.
I designed a patch that would look great by itself, or directly beneath the STAR oval, if that's what you wanted.
That's how I want mine done!
You can see it at the bottom of this page:
http://creativegraphx.com/raider/raider-1.html
These would likely be larger patches for a jacket or vest back.
I'll work up some smaller ideas for the front "pocket" location, or perhaps sleeve, and even hats.
Rudy......... (Denver, CO)
P.S. I will be sending some pictures for consideration for the main page after this weekend. I just dropped off my bike for it's first service, PLUS, my wheels and rear pulley finally arrived! I had them chromed!!!!
Woo Hoo!
No such thing as too much Chrome!
Especially on the Red "S" (the fast one...!)

I like the first one too, but I don't think we would have permission to use the STAR oval as part of it.
The bottom one is the best way I could think of to get around that.
http://creativegraphx.com/raider/raider-1.html
It would work well as a stand alone, or with the factory STAR oval on top of it.
That's what I plan on doing on the back on my leather vest.
NJRaider and I are working on this to figure out where to get them made up.
Info will be posted as soon as we get it.

I personally like the oval-less version, but would rather have the "113 Cubic Inches of Raw Attitude" wording from the original design. Maybe I'm the only one, but I would like to see it being a purely raider inspired patch, and you can rep. Star Motorcycles on their own patches. The last thing I am is ashamed of my raider being a star motorcycle, I'm quite proud of it. But I like the star patch idea fitting directly above the raider patch, and I really like the wording of 113 Cubic Inches of Raw Attitude.
Let me know if anyone agrees, or if I'm the only one that finds it redundant to put the star motorcycles on the patch if it will be directly below a star motorcycles oval.
Nonetheless, those patches are ALL amazing Rudy!!
Thanks guys,
Jake

I really the the designs. I have to agree with indy. If the patch has the star logo above it, everyone will know it is a Star motorcycle. I like the "113 Cubic Inches of Raw Attitude".

Okay, here's the final patch design: http://creativegraphx.com/raider/raider-1.html
The general consensus was not to say STAR MOTORCYCLES on the Raider patch.
If you do want to combine it with the STAR oval patch, it would be redundant.
Here is the final. I do need some input from anyone wanting to combine the 2 patches as to what size
STAR oval patch you like better?
It comes in more than one size. (Link on my patch design page)
Now everybody sign that petition so we can get those Vance and Hines - Jeff Palheygi Pipes made!!!!!

Not bad Rudy, I like it, is cool. When can we get the patch. I am looking to get a few of them for my jackets and vest.
Very good job Rudy..Congratulation to both of you and NJ.
Thanks Guys for all your hard works.
Ben
Rudy / NJ,
Thanks much for the effort on this. A thought occured to me that I wanted to share...some riders (like me) are members of the national/local Star Touring and Riding and have the large Star patch on our vest/jacket.
Here's a reference image: http://www.startouring.org/viewimage.aspx?id=413
In any case, will you have smaller patches available for the front or sides of a vest? I want one for my vest, but the back is already showing my Star patch and chapter so a large version for the back is not an option.
Thanks again!

Hey Vintagecar1957
You had a black and White logo of the raider patch that I think would be cool as a window decal. Would like to know if it is ok to us and if so if I could get it to make a window decal from. I would make you one if you would like as well. Free of course.

Okay, here is the FINAL patch idea.
NJRaider will check on the pricing, and the time frame and that info will be posted as soon as we have it.
Since we had a lot of different ideas about what the patch should say,
we are going to look into 2 versions of the patch.

Rudy,
ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!!! I know we are all so unbelievably thankful for all the effort yourself and NJ have both put into this project. I, like so many of us, am incredibly excited to get my hands on one. In fact I intend to order small and large sizes of BOTH variations. Thank you so much for putting up with all of the input we've been slinging your way through this post.
As a side note (probably shoulda mentioned this before), while it does appear you and NJ have a source already mapped out for getting these whipped up, I am involved partially in the textile industry, and have many contacts that I'm sure could be of some use in production of these and other textile-related items...should the need ever arise. Again....probably shoulda mentioned that when this project was in its' infancy a long time ago...
Thanks again,
Jake

Hi Jake,
Contact NJRaider. I think he's just getting prices right now.
Oh, and we don't have 2 sizes, we have 2 styles.
The patch is 9" wide x 3-1/2" tall.
I designed it so the curve at the top would match up nice a tight with the smaller 3-1/2 inch wide STAR oval, in case someone wanted to combine them.
I suppose I could make some smaller ones later, for the front, for shirt pockets, sleeves, etc.
We'll see what kind of time I have.
Still have to take care of my business you know.....!
