I use wraparound blue mirrored safety glasses when I'm rarely without a helmet. You can pick them up at Lowe's or Home Depot for less than $15.

Here's what I use. The photo chromatic lenes let me wear them day or night without having to change or carry a spare.
I have the XL-1 and a set of XL-1LA(Light adjusting)

Go to lowes and buy their safety glasses, um.. let me see if I can find out the name..
They look like regular sunglasses but are one peice across the front with hinges.
They are like 8 bucks and impact resistant and fit the face really nicely.

Check those, they also have clear versions.. I have both and keep the clear ones in under my seat.

I wear contacts so I want to block all the wind I can so I use Willeyx climate control glasses they have a foam insert thats removable to block all the wind from your eyes. I have two pair one just straight sunglasses and the other a pair of light adjusting when I'm going out closer to dark, These glasses are great and supposed to be ballistic proof so they are better than just cheap sunglasses and look a whole lot better than safety glasses. These are the model name Blink...

wileys are awesome but not cheap. I have the revolver pair w/o the inserts for normal daily riding. I use the clear safety glasses for night time.

The original poster wanted something that didn't cost "two arms and a leg".. Just trying to fit the requirements for him. But, wiley X's are the sh*t. They are super durable, look cool and keep out the wind even if you don't get the ones with the seal.

I made that statement because I was at a few local shops over the past week and they have no eye glasses that are even worth the money. Most shops around here have serious down graded their line of eye protection because people want to spend a billion dollars on chrome and parts but .50 cents on eye protection. The last shop i stopped at had a pair of $30 glasses (most expensive) that i played with and broke. It doesnt make sense to me. If you cant see, you cant ride. Protect your eyes and your head.

All good posts and comments.
Here's the meat of it. If you wear a helmet that has some sort of shield, or a bike with a windscreen, buy the cheapies ($10). If you wear a half helmet, or none, invest in the more expensive pair. They will last longer and protect you better.
I bought cheapies for a long time, and would carry a spare just in case.
The cheap ones inevitably always break at the worst time, usually at the hinge. I had a pair break on me not 2 hours after I bought them on a trip two years ago. Plus the lenses will scratch easier on the cheaper ones.
Since investing in wiley-x last year I've had no complaints and no need to replace them. After you've bought 3 or 4 or 10 pair of inexpensive glasses, you'll consider the better ones.

For sure, thats why i rock the wileys. But honestly those 8.00 ones are pretty badass. Just saying. You should check em out prior to knocking em. I use them for my clear pair and they stay under the seat for night time.
They kick some serious ass. Did you guys check the link and see what they look like? I think you guys might have the wrong kind in mind.

Here's a tip for buying sunglasses ...
When you hold them in your hands, flip them around so you're looking at the lenses from the front. Then take a careful look at the reflection of a bright object (behind you)... bouncing back off the lenses. For example, orient the sunglasses so they reflect the image of the overhead lights in the store. Carefully watch that image of the lights as you move the glasses through small angles (back and forth). If the lenses are very good quality, that image should not change shape or distort in any way. If you see the image lengthen or narrow in any way, then the shape of the lenses is distorted. Don't buy those glasses! (no matter what the brand or the cost).
Really expensive sunglasses usually don't have this problem. Moderate price brands (say $40-$70) sometimes have an issue, and sometimes not. It just depends on how much effort the manufacturer put into making good optics. Cheap sunglasses often have this problem.
What does it mean? It means that the light entering your eyes is not properly focused, and outside objects will be very slightly distorted or blurred. Usually the blurring is not so noticeable that your eyes detect an obvious effect while riding. Your brain is usually too busy watching the road. But if you wear these bad glasses for several hours, you'll notice that you eyes start to get really tired, or you start to get a headache after a long time.
Good luck!

I would never buy cheap glasses, I mean you only have two eyes and without them you can't ride so do yourself a favor and get a good pair that offer some protection not some cheap pair that will fall apart when you needed them the most.
I wear my full face helmet about 70% and almost always when on the highway and I'm glad I did when I got into my accident a few weeks ago has it saved me from getting a nasty cut on my face right by my left eye, but if I was only wearing my half helmet and a good pair of glasses at least it would have saving my eye, a windshield on your bike will not help you, while it does keep the wind down and debris away from your face it will not help if you have an accident and get thrown from the bike like I did..I mean would you buy a cheap part for the Raider, I'm guessing the answer is no so please folks do yourselves a favor and get GOOD eyewear.

Even though some of the glasses may be cheap in price, they have to be able to withstand direct impacts to earn a Z85 rating as safety glasses. I have three pairs of $3 safety glasses, one clear for at work, one amber for low light situations, and one blue mirrored sunglasses, all with the Z85 safety rating. I've taken some direct shots from steel chips and debris at work without so much as a mark on them as well as some road debris while on the bike and I'd put them up against the more expensive ones for eye protection. Just my 2 cents.

Every one's mug is shaped differently and some people are just uglier then others.
There is no need to spend an arm and a leg on expensive riding glasses.
Go to the cheap rack of glasses at any motorcycle store.
Try on every freaking pair and set aside a couple styles that fits to your face the best and offers the best protection.
Be patient, people will look at you crazy and you will make a mess of the display but you should not give a shiznet because you need comfy glasses right?
I like to make sure the foam padding makes contact to my face all the way around (thats what she said).
After I selected a few styles, I'll try the ones I set aside on again, and again eliminate those that are not comfy for "me" until I narrow it down to the last pair.
If none of the glasses give you that warm and fuzzy feeling leave the mess you just made and go to the next sore with a decent selection and start over.
I will also look for glasses that have slim ear pieces. Sometimes I ride with my helmet, bandanna, head phones and glasses. If your glasses have big ol' porn style ear pieces they can get annoying and bothersome on the ear lobes.
I have found a few pair of 8 dollar glasses that fit better and have better wind protection then any 200 dollar pair I could find.

I have a few pairs of wiley x's laying around in boxes somewhere. Call em "bring backs" from Iraq. Let me dig them out for everyone and I'll give em to you all for some great prices.
Have some oakely's and ess ones laying around too.

I had a pretty serious eye accident a few years back and lost 80% vision with torn retina. since i only have 1 good eye left i make sure i protect it at all times.
i use 7Eye bora. i cringed to drop the cash, but haven't regretted it for a second.
http://www.activesportsunglasses.com/7eye-bora.html
i've tried regular shades riding(oakleys, arnette) and my eyes don't stop tearing up flying down the highway. i use the 7Eye and all problems go away. never tried Wileys but they look like good quality and would like to try them out.
everyone is different some people are fine with the cheaper shades (i wish i was) whatever works for you is good enuff.

Well how dumb is that? Those were great while over there.
I still owe you all some eyewear, I just haven't been home in quite awhile. I am on trip after trip that seems never ending. I am currently gone right now, getting home for a whopping 12 hours and then off again for another week.
Fear not, I didn't forget about my Raider buddies. I'll get them dug out as soon as I get more than a few hours to myself and family.
To be continued....

I bought a pair of Oakley jawbones. They have theses little cutout vents on the top and bottom outside portion of the lenses so you dont get that vacuum effect that'll mess with your contacts. The cutouts actually blow air out from behind the lens. They also come with a pair of yellow lenses that make everything really bright at night. I hear a lot of the hardcore bicyclists use them around here. The arms on the sides are also made to break away so they dont actually break at the hinge like most glasses will.

I've changed my mind about shades ... and I'm prepared to spend more serious $$ to get something that really works. I became convinced after I just did a really long 1-day ride on the Raider, and wound up coming into LA at dusk. The city was cold and had a lot of cloud cover. I was getting chilled and I had my standard shades on under my helmet visor - but couldn't really work through heavy traffic and pull over to get them off.
So I realized that there are some times when having light sensitive lenses (photochromic) can be a big advantage on a bike.
I took a look at the Oakleys that you're wearing. They are pricey, but have a lot of good features. Considering the price of these high-end shades, I gotta' go try these things on before buying. I need to find a local place that stocks Wiley-X, 7eye, and Oakley.

What's special about the 1A's in the Wileys? Do those change the darkness of the lenses with varying light conditions?

I wish I could tell you what brand these are but I tossed the box away last year and it doesn't say the name anywhere on them that I can find.
I wear these and they change to dark in the sun or at night to clear. I got them at my Yamaha dealership. They work great for keeping things from the road from getting into my eyes. You can see they have the goggle-like foaming around the eye frames....very comfortable.

dT, Iv'e got a really small head, so the oakleys look pretty big on my face, but they fit well. And it's a huge step up from my maui-jims that I wore before I got them. The maui's are actually a glass lens so thank god nothing actually hit them, or id be picking shards out of my retna's.
